No More Excuses: Aligning Our Choices with God’s Plan for Our Lives

Let’s be real. We all make excuses.

“I don’t have time to work out.”

“I’ll start eating healthier on Monday.”

“I’m too tired to pray.”

“I’ll take better care of myself once things slow down.”

Sound familiar? Yeah, me too.

Excuses are easy. They feel justified in the moment. But if we’re honest, they’re just barriers we put up between us and the life God actually wants for us. Because here’s the truth: God has a plan for our lives. And that plan requires us to be well—mentally, physically, and spiritually.

So let’s talk about it. Let’s break down the excuses, call them out for what they are, and reframe them through the lens of God’s purpose.

Excuse #1: “I Don’t Have Time”

This is probably the most common one. Life is busy. Work, kids, responsibilities, relationships, errands—the list goes on. But let’s flip this for a second.

If we say we don’t have time to take care of our bodies, to pray, to rest, to eat well—what we’re really saying is:

“I don’t have time for the life God has planned for me.”

Ouch.

God gave us this body, this mind, this spirit. And He calls us to steward them well. The same way we prioritize work meetings, appointments, and obligations, we need to prioritize our well-being—because it’s part of His plan.

Reframe It: Instead of saying, “I don’t have time,” say, “I will make time because my health and my faith are non-negotiable in God’s plan for me.”

Excuse #2: “I’m Too Tired”

Listen, exhaustion is real. Life is draining sometimes. But have you ever noticed how we somehow find energy for the things we really want to do? We’ll binge-watch a whole series, scroll social media for an hour, or get up early for a vacation - but when it comes to taking care of ourselves, suddenly we’re too tired?

Here’s the thing: God isn’t asking us to do everything in our own strength.

“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31, NLT)

When we align our choices with His purpose, He sustains us. We don’t have to do it alone.

Reframe It: Instead of saying, “I’m too tired,” say, “God gives me the strength I need, and I will choose to honor Him with my choices.”

Excuse #3: “I’ll Start Tomorrow”

Tomorrow is the land of procrastination. The place where dreams go to collect dust.

How many times have we said we’d start next week, next month, or next year? But here’s the problem—delayed obedience is still disobedience.

God has called us to live well. Not eventually. Not when it’s convenient. But now.

James 4:17 puts it plainly:

“Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.”

That’s deep. Because we know we need to take care of ourselves. We know we need to pray. We know we need to nourish our bodies, move our bodies, and renew our minds. So why are we putting it off?

Reframe It: Instead of saying, “I’ll start tomorrow,” say, “I will start today because I refuse to delay the life God has for me.”

Excuse #4: “It’s Too Hard”

Listen, I get it. Breaking bad habits, starting new routines, committing to consistency—it’s tough. But you know what’s even harder? Living outside of God’s best for your life.

God never promised easy. But He did promise help.

“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13, NLT)

We don’t have to figure it out on our own. God equips us. He walks with us. He provides the discipline, the resources, and the grace we need.

Reframe It: Instead of saying, “It’s too hard,” say, “With God, all things are possible.”

Excuse #5: “I’m Not Worth It”

This one might be buried deep, but for some of us, it’s the real reason we don’t take care of ourselves. Somewhere along the way, we started believing the lie that we’re not worth the effort. That prioritizing our well-being is selfish.

Let’s shut that down right now.

“You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14, NIV)

God doesn’t make mistakes. He created you with care, intention, and love. Your life matters. Your health matters. Your relationship with Him matters.

Reframe It: Instead of saying, “I’m not worth it,” say, “I am God’s masterpiece, and I will honor Him by caring for what He created.”

No More Excuses - Only God’s Plan

The truth is, we can’t step into the fullness of what God has for us if we’re constantly making excuses.

God has a bigger purpose for your life. He’s called you to be strong, focused, clear-minded, and well - because what He has planned for you requires you to be ready.

So let’s stop treating our health—physical, mental, and spiritual—as optional. It’s part of our assignment. It’s part of God’s plan.

Today, right now, let’s make the decision:

  • To prioritize our well-being.

  • To lean on God for strength.

  • To stop waiting for tomorrow.

  • To remove every excuse that stands between us and the life God has for us.

Because when we truly align ourselves with His plan, we will be stronger, more focused, and fully prepared for the purpose He’s placed on our lives.

No more excuses. Just faith, action, and obedience.
